Scrum is not agile. Agile is not Scrum.
Which of these four preferences has failed?
- Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
- Working software over comprehensive documentation
- Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
- Responding to change over following a plan
That's it. That's agile. Read it at agilemanifesto.org. How is that dead?
People keep saying #agileisdead. It would be more accurate to say that they are tired of being made to do yet another, different set of nonsense paperwork so that executives who don't understand their work can feel informed. That's fair.
That's not agile.
If your company's processes aren't working for you, odds are, they're not working for your leadership or clientele, either. If you spend more time completing TPS reports than actually testing your software, then your software probably shows it. But if you never write down what you're testing and what you're not, your software probably shows that, too. If you are releasing some software feature a year after the market for it peaked, well, lol. Good job, there.
Those are real problems. Pick one. Attack that problem. Break that mold.
That's agile.
